Sweeping Seattle

It’s a Monday morning, the sun is still down below the horizon and there is a slight mist from the fog that sits just below the street lamps. If you listen closely, you can hear them in a slight deep vibrating bass as they circle the lots and streets of the cities we occupy. The pulsating flash of lights and the scratching sounds of a broom become more audible as a Nitehawk Sweeper drives by.

In a world filled with super, exotic and heavily modified cars of all shapes and sizes, it’s amusing to admit that one my favorite clients and products to shoot, is an actual street sweeper. Nitehawk has operated locally in the Seattle area for a long time but sell their trucks quite literally, everywhere.

As a photographer it’s our job to not just translate what the client is specifically asking for, but help guide them in the process along the way for maximum impact. Recently the Nitehawk team reached out and wanted to produce a calendar for their clients and marketing needs for 2021, featuring a very unique shot that included their two flag ship trucks and team. The company’s trucks are so popular that they are sold before they are even done in production, which requires a good amount of planning to execute a vision with limited time and resources.

Shooting on location is always preferred but when weather and logistics don’t want to help, you have to plan accordingly. In the end, we opted to shoot on location at their warehouse and through some editing magic, made the final result in their desired location.

Lastly, the biggest challenge naturally is shooting during a pandemic! The proper safety precautions were made with social distancing and masks, which made for a very unique and final group shot with the team. Collectively, we tried several poses, masks and safety options to appeal to all customers with a final result. Special thanks to the Nitehawk Sweepers team for their loyalty over the past 8 years and Kyle Shepard of Teak Creative.
